SHORT SUMMARY
- ElevenLabs is an AI audio platform built for realistic voiceovers, voice cloning, and dubbing.
- LOVO AI (Genny) is an all-in-one voice and video tool, but its parent company filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy on May 27, 2026.
- ElevenLabs’ real strength is human-sounding voices, plus cloning from as little as 10 seconds of audio on its new v4 model.
- LOVO’s real strength was its range: 500+ voices in 100+ languages and a built-in video editor.
- That range now comes with a real risk of paying a company that is closing down.
- ElevenLabs is the safer pick today: it’s an active company with a free plan and paid plans from $6/month, so you can test before you pay.
What is ElevenLabs?

ElevenLabs is an AI audio platform. You type text, pick a voice, and it reads the text aloud in a natural-sounding voice. It can also:
- Clone a voice from a short recording
- Dub videos (re-voice them in other languages)
- Turn speech into text
- Make music and sound effects
Developers can connect it to their own apps through its API, which is a tool that lets apps talk to each other. ElevenLabs was founded in 2022 by Piotr Dąbkowski and Mati Staniszewski. Press reports say it raised $500 million in February 2026. People use it for YouTube voiceovers, podcasts, audiobooks, games, and business videos.
Best for: creators and businesses who want the most natural-sounding voices.
You can read prices and current offers on our ElevenLabs pricing and deals page.
What is LOVO AI?

LOVO is the company. Genny is the tool. It put all of these in one place:
- Text-to-speech
- Video editing
- Automatic subtitles
- An AI script writer
- Voice cloning
LOVO was founded in 2019 by Tom Lee. It offered 500+ voices in 100+ languages and claimed over 2 million users. Most users were social media creators, marketers, and small teams.
Best for (before the bankruptcy): creators who wanted voice and video in one tool.
You can read how it worked on our LOVO AI page, but that page describes it as it was before the bankruptcy.
The main difference: ElevenLabs focuses on the best possible voices. LOVO tried to do voice and video in one tool. That was a good idea, but the company is now closing down.
What happened to LOVO?
In May 2026, LOVO Inc. filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. The filing came less than three weeks before a court hearing in a lawsuit from voice actors. The judge paused that case after the bankruptcy notice.
The actors say LOVO used their voices without proper permission. These are their claims. The court has not ruled on them.
Here is what is confirmed and what is not:
- Confirmed: Court filings show the company is closing under Chapter 7.
- Not confirmed: Whether Genny works today. One review article published on September 29, 2026 reported error pages on LOVO’s site. Earlier reviews said the site was still selling plans in mid-2026 with no notice of the filing.
- User reports: Reviewers describe server errors and accounts downgraded without warning, some starting in early 2026.

Pros and cons
Here is what each tool does well and where it falls short, based on user reviews and company details. ElevenLabs comes first, then LOVO.
ElevenLabs Pros
- Voices that reviewers often rank as the most natural available
- Cloning from short audio samples, with a professional option for a closer match
- 90+ languages on the new v4 model
- A free plan lets you test it without a card
- Extra tools for dubbing, speech-to-text, music, and sound effects
- Paid plans, from $6 a month, include commercial use
- An active company that just released a new model (see the update below)
ElevenLabs Cons
- The credit system is confusing. Every tool draws from one shared balance, and heavy users can spend more than the plan price suggests.
- Credits are lost if you downgrade or cancel.
- Reviews often mention slow support for complex problems.
- No built-in video editor.
- Some words need pronunciation fixes, and one reviewer found the v3 model gave less control than the older v2.
- Higher plans get expensive.
LOVO AI (Genny) Pros
- Voice, subtitles, and basic video editing in one tool
- Very wide language range (100+)
- Voice cloning on paid plans
- Its best voices sound emotional and lively
- API access for developers
LOVO AI (Genny) Cons
- The company is closing under Chapter 7. This is the biggest risk on the list.
- Reliability complaints: server errors, downgraded accounts, and deleted voice clones.
- Reviews often mention billing disputes and slow support.
- Some non-English voices sound robotic.
- Hour limits: about 2 hours a month on Basic.
- The voice-cloning lawsuit raises questions about consent.
Latest update: ElevenLabs launches Eleven v4
On September 28, 2026, ElevenLabs released two new voice models, Eleven v4 and Eleven v4 Turbo. The company says v4 is its most emotional and natural model so far. Here is what changed:
- More languages: 90+, up from 70+ on the earlier flagship model.
- Faster cloning: a voice can be cloned from about 10 seconds of audio.
- Directions inside your script: tags like [whispers] or [laughs] tell the voice how to read a line.
- Same credit pricing: v4 is available on every plan, including the free one.
Keep these limits in mind:
- The “ranked first” claim is from launch day. ElevenLabs says v4 ranked first on Artificial Analysis, an independent voice-ranking site. Rankings change, and the “75% of listeners preferred it” figure comes from the company’s own test.
- Older clones need to be re-made to work well with v4.
- v4 Turbo is for developers. It is built for live voice bots, such as phone assistants, not for creators making voiceovers.
Which one sounds more natural?
We did not run a listening test for this article, so here is what reviewers report.
ElevenLabs is widely described as the more natural option, with real-sounding pauses and emotion. LOVO’s best voices handle emotion well, but some non-English voices sound robotic and get words wrong.
Neither tool is perfect. Both sometimes need pronunciation fixes, especially for names and technical terms. Play the free samples with your own script before you pay for anything.
Languages: where LOVO had the edge
LOVO offered 100+ languages, and ElevenLabs now lists 90+ with v4. On paper, LOVO still has the longer list. But a long list only helps when the voices work well, and some reviewers say LOVO’s non-English voices sounded robotic. Test a sample in ElevenLabs first if you need a rare language.
Voice cloning and consent
ElevenLabs offers two kinds of cloning:
- Instant cloning (from the $6 Starter plan) copies a voice from a short clip. With v4, about 10 seconds is enough.
- Professional cloning (from the $22 Creator plan) trains on a longer recording for a closer match.
The free plan has neither. LOVO included cloning on paid plans, which made it popular with solo creators.
Easier cloning makes consent matter more. The LOVO lawsuit is about exactly this: the actors say LOVO made and sold copies of their voices without permission. The safe rule is simple, whatever the court decides: clone only your own voice, or a voice you have written permission to use.
Voiceover only, or voiceover plus video?
LOVO’s idea was one tool for script, voice, subtitles, and video. ElevenLabs makes audio only, so you need a separate editor for the video.
Use a video editor with voiceover built in if you want voice and video in one place. Our FlexClip review is a good place to start. For videos with an on-screen presenter, look at Synthesia.
What will you actually pay?
ElevenLabs sells monthly credits, not minutes. As a rough guide, 10,000 credits is about 10 minutes of speech. Reviewers estimate about $0.17 to $0.20 per minute on paid plans before you redo any lines. Commercial use means using the audio in work you earn money from, such as monetized YouTube videos or client projects. Here is how the plans compare.
ElevenLabs
| Plan | Price per month | Credits per month | What it adds |
| Free | $0 | 10,000 | Testing only. Personal use, and you must credit ElevenLabs |
| Starter | $6 | 30,000 | Commercial use, Instant cloning |
| Creator | $22 | about 121,000 | Professional cloning |
| Pro | $99 | 600,000 | Higher limits and audio quality |
| Scale | $299 | about 1.8 million | Logins for team members |
| Business | $990 | about 6 million | More logins and volume |
ElevenLabs currently lists the first Creator month at $11, then $22 after that. Annual billing costs 10 months instead of 12.
Two catches to know:
- Rollover has a catch. Unused credits roll over for up to two months on paid plans. You lose them if you downgrade or cancel.
- One shared balance. Every tool (speech, dubbing, music) draws from the same credits, so track your use.
The safest way to start is the ElevenLabs free plan. It needs no card, so you can hear your own script before you spend anything. Our ElevenLabs pricing guide lists the current offers.
LOVO AI
LOVO’s help center listed 2 voice hours a month on Basic, 5 on Pro, and 20 on Pro+. Prices differ by source, and some promo prices have ended, so we won’t list a number we can’t confirm. Our LOVO AI pricing breakdown has the older figures. Check them on the live site first.

How to move from LOVO to ElevenLabs
Follow these five steps to move your work safely.
- Save all your audio and project files today.
- Download your scripts and subtitle (SRT) files.
- Note where you used any cloned voice, and whether you had permission. Cloned voices don’t transfer between tools, so you’ll need to make a new clone, only from a voice you have permission to use.
- Stop LOVO billing and keep the confirmation. Some reviewers say they were still charged or locked out.
- Test one small project on ElevenLabs’s free plan before you move everything.

Other AI voice tools worth checking
- Murf AI: clean voices for business narration.
- Synthesia: the pick for avatar video.
- FlexClip: for editing video with voiceover in one place.

Final verdict
For most people, ElevenLabs is the safer choice. Its voices sound natural, the company is active and just released a new model, and you can test it for free. Its weak spots are real too: a confusing credit system, slow support in some reviews, and no video editor.
LOVO had real strengths, like its video editor and language range. But paying a company that is closing down is a risk you don’t need.
Start with the ElevenLabs free plan, test your own script, and pay only once you like the result. Already using LOVO? Save your work first, then move.
