Social Media Management Tools 2026: Pricing, Features & Discounts
Which social media tool fits you?
Social media management tools handle the day-to-day work of scheduling posts, replying to comments and messages, and tracking results. The right one depends on your team size and what you need most.
If you need… | Start with |
Simple scheduling with a free plan
Many accounts or client work on a budget
Pay-per-account or flat pricing
AI content and client approvals
One calendar for all marketing work
Open source or self-hosting
Inbox, reporting and listening in one platform
Brand and competitor monitoring
Weekly AI-planned content |
Scheduling tools vs. social listening tools
A scheduling tool publishes your posts and manages your inbox. A listening tool tracks what people say about your brand across the web. Awario and Mention do the second job. Mention retired its own publishing tools on January 30, 2026, and now points users to Agorapulse for scheduling. Most teams use a scheduler first and add listening later.

How social media tools charge
The same plan can cost very different amounts depending on how the tool bills:
- Per channel (Buffer). Each connected channel is billed separately. Cost per channel drops as you add more.
- Per seat (Sprout Social). You pay for every user, from $79 to $399 per seat per month on annual plans.
- Per account or flat plan (Social Champ). Pay-per-profile fits one or two accounts. A flat plan fits more.
- By tier with limits (SocialPilot, ContentStudio). Extra accounts and users cost more. SocialPilot adds $4 per extra account and $5 per extra user per month.
- By mentions (Awario, Mention). Cost rises with how many mentions you track.
How to choose
- Count your channels, users and brands. This decides which pricing model costs least.
- Check the free plan limits. Buffer’s Free plan caps scheduling at 10 posts per channel.
- Decide whether you need approvals. Buffer gates them to its Team plan, and SocialPilot gates client approvals to Premium.
- Pick listening separately. Don’t pay for listening features inside a scheduler if you only publish.
- Check support for your networks. Features vary by platform, especially inbox and analytics.
